OLOVES were interviewed recently for JOMO. Read below to find out about our delicious olives, the excellent quality of our ingredients and the love and attention that goes into getting our OLOVES to you.
Q: Can you talk to us about how your Oloves are made? From sourcing the olives to the ingredients they are coated with.
A: Our wonderful green olives are grown and cultivated in northern Greece on the Halkidiki Peninsula, a location providing the perfect climate and soil to produce superb table olives that are known for their size, firmness and peppery taste. We harvest around mid-September time and then brine cure for around 6 months. We then pit the green olives and marinate them with these three award-winning flavour profiles:
- Basil & Garlic
- Lemon & Rosemary
- Chilli & Oregano
Our natural black Kalamata olives are cultivated in the region of Kalamata, in the southern Peloponnese. They are harvested later than the green olives (Nov/Dec) once they are black in colour and fully ripe. We then pit and marinate our kalamata olives in spicy piri-piri peppers, chilli & garlic... probably the most flavoursome olive marinade in the world!
Our olives are packed without liquid and in single-serve bags (10 olives), delightfully and deliciously easy to eat on-the-go.
Q: In what setting would you say Oloves are best enjoyed - set the scene for us?
A: I'd recommend a taverna overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, as the sunset bathes the scene in golden light and a light breeze caresses your sun-kissed skin. Whilst OLOVES can't take our customers to paradise we do aim to bring a little piece of paradise to our customers, wherever they may be; from the martini bars of Castro & Sausalito in San Fran to the healthy fitness crowd of David Lloyd gyms. We are also popular in delis like Whole Foods Market but some of our biggest fans are 30,000 feet in the air, where we have sold 40 million bags to airlines! Back on terra firma they are a much loved component of my eldest's school lunchbox.
Q: Are there any amazing health benefits to olives we should be aware of?
A: Olives are all-natural, vegan, low in calories (under 50 cals a bag!) and they are high in vitamin E and other powerful antioxidants. Studies have shown that olives can help to preserve healthy skin and heart and even assist against osteoporosis The healthy monounsaturated fats found in olives are the cornerstone of the Mediterranean diet, famed for the longevity it seems to impart. There aren't too many foods out there that both do you good and taste this good too!
